The artist is currently working on a series of larger paintings. The images being created are emphatically imagined. Visual elements are used as symbols in all of the paintings. They are the expression of ideas that change and evolve. Because all of the elements are symbols, light, shadow and color are used not to imitate nature but as part of the vocabulary. Land or seascapes when used do not illustrate actual spaces but create context. The size relationship between the viewer and the art and the impact it has, have become an essential part of the dialogue. Because the dimension is meant to echo the idea, the paintings are being created on a larger scale. Recently the ideas and concepts from which the works are conceived are based more on empirical knowledge as opposed to that garnered through history or gained intuitively. They are a response to the observed. It is not important that the conceptual bases for an individual work is apparent, but that the painting resonates with the viewer in some intuitive way on an emotional level.

All of the larger pieces are oil on canvas. They range in size from about 60” to 96” wide. The smaller paintings that are still being made are either oil or pastel depending on the surface and effects desired. They range in general from 22” X 30” to 30” X 50”. The scale of each work is determined by how best to serve the idea upon which it is based. The palate used is also in service of the idea.
